A passenger plane is reported to have landed safely after an engine caught fire during take-off, according to news agency AP.
The plane was due to fly from Queenstown to Melbourne in Australia, according to local media. Footage is said to show the plane on fire as it flew over Queenstown, and witnesses claim to have heard "loud bangs".
The Virgin Airways plane, a Boeing 737-800, was diverted to Invercargill Airport and is reported to have landed safely. There were no signs of flames during the landing.
