The 18-year-old was led into the courtroom wearing a dark thin jacket and with his face covered with a hood and a face mask. The security police who led the man into the courtroom also covered their faces.
Through his defense attorney, he admitted to being detained, but when the judge asked, he did not want to answer whether he denied or confessed to the crime.
According to the Stockholm District Court, he is suspected on probable grounds of preparing for terrorist crimes, participating in a terrorist organization, serious crime, attempted murder, and preparing for serious crimes against the law on flammable and explosive goods.
Paragraph 7
The court also decided that the man should undergo a so-called paragraph 7 examination - a minor psychiatric evaluation, at the request of prosecutor Henrik Olin.
I have reason to believe during the investigation that there is a mental health issue involved, which is why I raised the question, says Olin to TT after the hearing.
Stockholm and Skåne
The man, who is both a Syrian and Swedish citizen, is registered in Skåne. He was arrested in the Stockholm area on Tuesday after being detained in his absence since February 3.
My absolute assessment is that the Security Police with this operation have with great probability prevented a possible attack, says Olin.
The crime period is set from August 1 last year to the arrest, and the crime scene is "within Skåne and Stockholm counties".
The classification of flammable and explosive goods applies from January 1 this year, while the attempted murder, according to the prosecutor, took place abroad. He does not want to comment on the suspicions further, and does not answer whether anyone was injured in the attempted murder.
Can you say which terrorist group he is supposed to have participated in?
I do not want to go into which or which groups it concerns, beyond that it concerns connections to violent Islamist fundamentalism
Convicted of rioting
The man's lawyer, Johan Åkermark, has a gag order and cannot comment on the suspicions, he tells TT.
The 18-year-old was convicted in 2023 of serious sabotage against emergency services to six months of youth supervision, for involvement in the Easter riots in the Linköping district of Skäggetorp in April 2022. The riot broke out before the Danish right-wing extremist Rasmus Paludan was to burn a Koran in Skäggetorp.
The man, who was then 15 years old, admitted to throwing stones and destroying police cars together with others during the riot.
He is also convicted of robbery and drug offenses committed at the beginning of 2023.
