This is about a North American songbird, the red-eyed vireo, according to Raul Vicente, ecologist and member of the BirdLife rarity committee, which quality-assures which species and subspecies have been found in Sweden.
When the committee receives an observation report from a birdwatcher, they assess whether it concerns the right species before being able to enter the find into the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences' species database.
The committee has not yet received the report, and therefore it is not possible to confirm that it is a red-eyed vireo.
But personally, I think it looks good, says Vicente.
He says it was not entirely unexpected that the bird species would turn up in Sweden as well, since it has been observed several times in the UK and most recently in Norway.
I think, on the other hand, that it was very unexpected that it would turn up on Djurgården. You think that such a species would turn up out on the West Coast, in Skåne or in Halland, says Vicente, adding that the bird probably hitched a ride with some ship.
