The Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) issued yellow warnings for sudden ice slicks in larger parts of Norrland during Saturday evening. The rain – which can cause ice slicks and create problems in traffic – is expected to cease gradually on Sunday.
During the night, no accidents have been reported. However, the risk of ice slicks in the north remains, warns SMHI.
We have not received any reports of accidents, only reports that it has been very slippery, says Emilie Danielsson, commander at the Police Region North.
The mild weather with a few plus degrees and rain can be treacherous on the roads, which led to the warnings.
We'll see what happens when traffic gets going now in the morning. It's a few plus degrees here in Umeå and rain, but it gets colder at night, making it more slippery, says Emilie Danielsson.
The warnings apply until Sunday afternoon for parts of northern Svealand and eastern Norrland up to the height of Luleå.
