It will be a moderate - but who?
The government is already presenting Sweden's next EU Commissioner today.
A press conference has been announced for 13:15 to publicly announce who the government wants to send to Brussels for the new EU Commission that takes office late this autumn.
Ylva Johansson (S) has held the post since 2019, but is now expected to be replaced by someone from the parties in the sitting government.
EU Minister Jessika Roswall, Trade Minister Johan Forssell, EU Parliamentarian Tomas Tobé, and Foreign Minister Tobias Billström are among the people who have been speculated about in advance. Considering that The Moderate Party has not had an EU Commissioner during Sweden's 28 years in the EU, most pundits expect it to be someone from the largest governing party.
The area of responsibility in the Commission that the new Swedish participant will receive will be determined later through negotiations with the Commission President. With great likelihood, it will be German Ursula von der Leyen who continues in the post - even if it is not formally confirmed until the EU Parliament approves her at the earliest next week.
