An American air defense facility in northern Poland, which will be part of NATO's defense, was inaugurated on Wednesday.
The plans were made public in 2009. Initially, the facility was planned as a way to defend Europe from ballistic threats from Iran. In Poland, however, it has been seen as an American shield against a possible aggression from Russia.
The facility is located 230 kilometers from the Russian border and has been operational since July, but was officially inaugurated on Wednesday.
Through the conflicts that are currently ongoing, the conflict in Ukraine or in the Middle East, we can see how important air defense and missile defense are, says Poland's Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz.
NATO chief Mark Rutte says that the base "significantly strengthens our ability to defend ourselves against the growing threat of ballistic missiles".
