At least three people died on Sunday when they tried to cross the English Channel from northern France to the UK. The deaths have been confirmed by French rescue authorities.
About 50 people were rescued on the beach in Sangatte. Four people were airlifted for medical treatment.
There were more people trying to get on the boat than it could handle, said Jacques Billant in Pas-de-Calais at a press conference on Sunday.
Angela Eagle, who is the UK's minister responsible for, among other things, border control, claimed that human traffickers were behind the attempts to transport migrants across the English Channel.
