Constellation Energy, which owns the decommissioned nuclear power plant Three Mile Island outside Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, has decided to invest 1.6 billion dollars (approximately 16 billion kronor) in reviving the plant.
An agreement has been reached with technology and AI giant Microsoft, which has now been promised all the electricity produced by the plant in a new agreement.
One of the reactors at the Three Mile Island plant has been permanently shut down after a partial meltdown in 1979, the worst accident in American nuclear power history to date. The other reactor was shut down in 2019 for economic reasons, but is now planned to be put back into operation according to the new plan.
According to the plan, production is expected to resume in 2028.
