The bombs are said to have hit the road in al-Masnaa, which is the main land connection between Lebanon and Syria. The road is currently extra important since hundreds of thousands of Lebanese are fleeing the war.
The road leading to the main humanitarian border crossing for thousands of Lebanese into Syria is now cut off, says Lebanon's Transport Minister Ali Hamie to the news agency AFP.
The Norwegian aid organization Kirkens Nødhjelp warns that this could lead to "a horror scenario like Gaza", referring to the fact that millions of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have had nowhere to go when the war has raged.
"That Israel has today destroyed the main route for all those fleeing for their lives from Lebanon is a humanitarian tragedy", writes Benedicte Hafskjold from Kirkens Nødhjelp in an email to the news agency NTB.
Lebanon has more border crossings to Syria, but they are located further north and are not nearly as accessible. As for air travel, most international airlines have now stopped flying to and from Lebanon for security reasons.
There have been reports of desperate refugees taking the sea route to Cyprus, about 200 kilometers across the Mediterranean. But then it's about small, private boats. There is no regular ferry traffic.
