Interest in counting hedgehogs and reporting to WWF has been great. So great that the system couldn't handle it, reports P4 Väst.
The interest has been enormous. At times, our hedgehog monitors have had to be a bit patient with the system hanging and we've had to ask them to go in a bit later and report again, says Jessica Ångström, who is in charge of the hedgehog count, to the channel.
According to SLU Artdatabanken, the number of hedgehogs may have decreased by as much as 40 percent over twelve years, a figure that is based on relatively few observations.
The hedgehog count, which was conducted last week, was the first of its kind and part of a four-year project to gain more knowledge about hedgehogs.
