A man in his 70s was seriously injured when the boat he was traveling in collided with another boat in Inrefjärden outside Lövholmen in Piteå on Tuesday evening.
Two women in their 60s were also taken to hospital but are said to have minor injuries.
The accident occurred just after 7 pm and it was two recreational boats that collided for unknown reasons 600 meters out in the fjord. One boat was about to sink and one person ended up in the water, says Michael Saveman, commander at Police Region North.
In total, there were four people on board the boats, two people on each boat.
One of them, the driver of one of the boats, is seriously injured, but I don't know how seriously, says Saveman.
The police have launched an investigation into reckless driving and bodily harm and have seized the boats for a potential technical examination.
We haven't been able to interview the individuals yet, but that will be the next step to determine how the accident occurred.
