A large rescue operation is underway after a fire broke out in a row house in Sandviken at 4:30 am on Thursday morning.

There are three apartments in the row house that are currently on fire, says duty officer Niklas Bruhn.

A VMA, important message to the public, was issued during the morning to residents in the surrounding area but was lifted at 10 am.

There is a risk that the fire may spread to more apartments. The rescue service has worked together with the police throughout the night and morning to evacuate the residents.

All persons are believed to have escaped, there are no reports of injuries, says police spokesperson Tobias Ahlén-Svalbro.

In total, eight homes are said to have been evacuated due to the fire, according to SVT News Gävleborg. The extinguishing work is expected to continue until 11 am. It is currently unclear how the fire started.

We have initiated a preliminary investigation into gross negligence, to investigate the cause of the fire, says Tobias Ahlén-Svalbro.
