SFI

According to SFI, “Gain basic knowledge of the Swedish language and knowledge of Swedish society. You learn to speak, read and write, and practice using the language in everyday life and at work. Our programmes are free of charge.”

SFI offers several Swedish programs.

  • Sweden for immigrants mainly teaches basic Swedish.
  • Traineeships with language support provide letters of recommendation along with career development opportunities.
  • Sfi-combo combines upper secondary level Swedish with vocational training.
  • SFI on parental leave is a program where parents take SFI at the same time while on parental leave.
  • Sfx-Swedish for professionals offers Swedish language courses focusing on each professional field.

After completing the SFI course, you can continue studying Swedish through Swedish as a second language (SVA).

Intensive Swedish Courses at SIFA

There are a variety of courses where you can learn Swedish, including several programs for professionals and academics. Programs are operated depending on the individual's background. In addition, online courses are also provided, so you can choose to register according to your preferences and circumstances.

According to SIFA,

“SIFA offers intensive studies in Sweden for those who have a longer educational background from their home country and are accustomed to studying at a high pace.”

The total course of Intensive studies in Swedish takes about 1 year to 1 and a half year, depending on the individual's level of Swedish. This program is a full-time study course, and if you complete the program, you will be recognized as eligible to take classes at a Swedish university.

Free standing courses at a university

There are also online courses offered by universities. If you meet the prerequisites such as English proficiency and previous school credit requirements required by the university, you can also register for courses for international students at the university. You can search for Swedish courses on the site below, select a university, and apply for admission by uploading required documents such as English test scores and your passport image, and transcripts.
