A lay judge at Örebro District Court has been dismissed after revealing confidential information to a witness.
The lay judge was dismissed from their duties at the end of last year. The reason is that the lay judge spoke with a security guard after a confidential meeting about the verdict that had been decided. The security guard was a witness in the case, reports P4 Örebro.
I made the decision that she could not continue as a lay judge, because this is a flagrant breach of the rules that one must adhere to as a lay judge, says Chief Judge Lars-Gunnar Lundh to P4.
The lay judge has also been reported to the police for breach of confidentiality.
The incident led to the trial having to be retried.
