Johan Kuylenstierna becomes the new director-general of the Environmental Protection Agency. This was announced by Climate and Environment Minister Romina Pourmokhtari (L) at a press conference.

Kuylenstierna, 60 years old, has been the director-general of the state research council Formas since 2022. He has also previously been the chairman of the Climate Policy Council and worked within the UN, and is an honorary doctor at Stockholm University.

As director-general of the Climate Policy Council, Kuylenstierna expressed himself critically in 2022 about the then government's climate policy.

The climate transition has gained momentum. But we are not reaching the goals with the current policy. It's going too slowly, said Kuylenstierna then.
