Facebook and Instagram owner Meta is to pay 91 million euros, equivalent to over one billion kronor, in fines for breaches of password security, announces the Irish data protection authority.
The authority criticizes in its decision Meta for not having introduced suitable security measures to protect users' password data, and for the company taking too long to warn the supervisory authority about the problem.
In January last year, Ireland fined Meta for violating the EU's integrity laws on Facebook and Instagram.
Meta has its European headquarters in the Irish capital Dublin.
