Trump's statement was made on his social platform Truth Social.
Cook herself says that Trump does not have the authority to fire her. Mattias Persson agrees.
He is highly unlikely to be able to do that.
Wants to see lower interest rates
In order for it to be possible, she must have been convicted of at least some crime, according to Persson. She has not, it is so far loose accusations where the Trump administration claims that Cook has cheated with housing loans.
"I will not resign. I will continue to perform my duties to help the American economy as I have done since 2022", she says in a statement via her lawyer Abbe Lowell.
The dismissal lacks legal grounds according to Lowell, who states that a lawsuit against Trump will be submitted to the court.
Cook was appointed by the former president, the Democrat Joe Biden. Trump has turned up the tone against the central bank, and has, among other things, threatened Fed chief Jerome Powell with a lawsuit and called him a "stubborn idiot". The President has demanded that Powell significantly lower interest rates. It is customary for politicians not to interfere with the actions of an independent central bank.
Flees US assets
Trump's actions have an impact on the world's financial markets. Confidence in the US central bank takes a severe blow when integrity is threatened, according to Mattias Persson.
We have seen it already this morning and night, that there is a flight from American assets, he says.
And if this accelerates, there is a risk of global financial instability. The integrity and independence of the Federal Reserve are important for confidence in American assets, American government securities and the dollar, Persson continues.
If Trump succeeds in getting rid of Cook, he will then be able to replace her with a member who is in his debt.
