Historically low asylum numbers in Denmark

Around 860 people were granted asylum in Denmark last year. It is, aside from the pandemic year 2020, the lowest figures in over 40 years.

Kaare Dybvad Bek (S), Minister with responsibility for migration issues is very pleased.

"It is crucial for our society and cohesion that we have a low asylum influx so that integration can keep pace", he says in a press release.

The number has generally decreased since 2015 when larger groups of refugees, mainly from war-torn Syria, came to Denmark and other European countries.
