It is as a consequence of the recent heatwaves that Cams are warning about ozone levels. According to their forecasts, the month shift of July-August implies unusually high concentrations of ozone above ground.

If the concentrations of ozone exceed certain threshold values, it entails "significant health and environmental risks", according to Cams.

Regions around Paris, where the OS is in full swing, Benelux and Germany are among the countries where ozone concentrations will reach peak values, warns the EU satellite monitoring service. The Po Valley in northern Italy is also expected to experience very high concentrations of ozone until August 4.

Elevated levels of ozone near the ground are hazardous to health and lead, among other things, to increased discomfort for people with asthma or other lung diseases. Particularly vulnerable are already sensitive individuals, such as the sick, the elderly, and children.

High concentrations of ground-level ozone arise from, among other things, emissions of various substances that then form ozone in combination with high temperatures and sunlight. It may therefore become more common as the number of heatwaves and rising temperatures increase, according to Cams.
