Climate activist Greta Thunberg and activists from Extinction Rebellion are blocking the gas terminal at Kårstø in Tysvær municipality in Rogaland.
Eight kayaks and three motorboats have entered the security zone to prevent the normal operation of tankers. The land entrances to Kårstø are blocked by people of all ages – including Greta Thunberg, the activists announce in a press release.
This is Thunberg's first action against Norwegian gas and oil production.
We cannot passively watch as the fossil industry takes lives and destabilizes our vital systems. We are tired of empty words and greenwashing – it is crystal clear that the oil companies' behavior leads to death and suffering, says Greta Thunberg.
Just before 10 am, operations leader Bjørn Iden told Dagbladet that the activists would leave the site. This is denied by Extinction Rebellion.
We are still on site and campaigning.
