Rudy Giuliani, New York's former mayor, was sentenced in December 2023 to pay the equivalent of more than 1.5 billion kronor to two female election workers whom Giuliani claimed had engaged in electoral fraud when they counted votes in Georgia during the 2020 presidential election.

Giuliani was convicted of defamation and subsequently filed for personal bankruptcy.

In October, a judge ruled that Giuliani would have to hand over valuables to the two women to pay off his debt. The items included, for example, watches, a 1980 Mercedes previously owned by film star Lauren Bacall, a jersey signed by DiMaggio, and a luxury penthouse apartment in Manhattan, New York.

In a letter to the judge, Giuliani's lawyer announced that Giuliani had handed over the watches, a ring, and the Mercedes-Benz on Friday – but claimed that certain exceptions should be exempt from seizure, such as the signed jersey.
