Ann Veneman, Agriculture Minister under Republican George W Bush 2001-2005, changes sides and backs Democrat Kamala Harris as President, reports Fox News.
"Our nation is at a critical crossroads, the upcoming presidential election offers a great contrast in leadership and values (among the candidates), particularly for rural areas and agriculture", says Veneman in a statement that continues:
"Donald Trump's proposal for punitive tariffs is dangerous for the US countryside. It would raise prices on vital products, harm farmers by undermining important trade partners and increase costs for consumers."
After her time as minister, Veneman has, among other things, been the head of the UN Children's Fund Unicef.
