The extensive apartment fire that broke out in a multi-family house in the Hisingsbacka district of Gothenburg on Wednesday afternoon is now under control.
According to the rescue service, the fire started in an apartment and spread via a balcony to other balconies and up to the attic. The attic is still on fire, but under controlled forms. The work is now focused on preventing the spread to adjacent buildings and underlying apartments.
All 36 apartments in the residential building have been evacuated, and the residents have been offered support from, among others, the municipality, property owners, and insurance companies.
The VMA, important message to the public, which was issued at 5 pm due to the heavy smoke development, has been withdrawn.
The rescue service will remain on site throughout the night and monitor the fire.
There are no reports of anyone being injured in the fire.
