The VMA that was issued has now been lifted, and there is no longer a risk to the general public, reports P4 Kristianstad.
Residents in the area were advised to go indoors and close doors, windows, and ventilation. The smoke itself is hazardous, but there were also chemicals in the industrial premises that could be present in the smoke cloud.
A school and preschool in the area are, however, being kept closed during the day at the request of the rescue services.
The alarm about the fully developed fire came in just before 1:30 am on Thursday morning. During the night, the rescue services worked to stop the spread to an office section. By morning, the fire is believed to no longer pose a risk of spreading.
The worst has burned out, but there is still a lot of smoke, and all the roofs have collapsed.
About 20 units have been working on site, but the number of units has been scaled down during the morning.
In connection with the rescue work, a firefighter got acid on himself. He was taken to hospital for control and is expected to be fine.
He went into the building as a smoke diver and got an acid shower, and when he came out, he felt it starting to sting. He is being sanitized according to all the rules.
The police were on site during the night.
We have left since we do not suspect any crime, says police spokesperson Sara Andersson.
