Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has during a phone call with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin said that he wants to increase trade between the countries.
"President Erdogan announced that he has as a goal to increase cooperation between Turkey and Russia in several areas", the Turkish presidential office states in a statement and adds that they want to expand the trade volume.
After having condemned Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine, Turkey has since had a neutral stance in the war. The country has not introduced sanctions against Russia like those introduced by the West.
Erdogan has motivated the stance by saying that the country is dependent on Russian oil and gas.
Last autumn, the USA introduced sanctions against five Turkish companies for delivering products and services to Russian defense companies.
