The Police Entered Within a Minute – Met with Inferno

The police officers who arrived at Campus Risbergska in Örebro were met by an inferno and an "unheard-of smoke development", says Niclas Hallgren, deputy regional police chief in Bergslagen to SVT. The police are mapping the man's digital tracks and have not found "any evidence whatsoever" that the perpetrator had ideological motives.

Hallgren says in an interview with SVT's Aktuellt that the first police patrols entered the building within a minute of arriving at the scene, which Hallgren describes as an inferno with heavy smoke development.

The first patrols that are on site a few minutes after the first calls come in are met with, as they perceive it, gunfire directed at them. There is an enormous smoke development inside the building, which makes it extremely difficult to maneuver and work inside the building.

The police have found weapons on the scene that the perpetrator is said to have used.

The perpetrator has used a rifle, or long-barreled weapon, not a handgun, says Hallgren.

Going through film material

Hallgren further says that the police investigators have not "found anything that suggests any ideological background to this", but mentions that there is some film material that the police are going through.

The investigations of the media that the perpetrator has left behind, phones and the like, are ongoing. We are also conducting searches on the internet and forums. Of what we have found so far, we cannot find any evidence that there is any ideological motive behind this. But we are working broadly on the issue, of course, says Hallgren.

When the police arrived at the scene, they were fired upon, but did not return fire. The theory is that the perpetrator shot himself after the massacre.

What you do after being fired upon is that we advance further into the premises and eventually come across this person shot. It is likely that he shot himself, says Roberto Eid Forest, chief of the local police area Örebro at a press conference earlier on Wednesday.

All victims not identified

At least eleven people have been confirmed dead after the shooting at Campus Risbergska.

According to the police, they have not yet been able to identify all the dead.

Not fully, says Roberto Eid Forest.

Five people, three women and two men, all adults, are being treated in hospital for gunshot wounds. They are said to have been hit in the legs or arms. Another person is being treated in the lung department because they inhaled smoke. Six police officers sought medical attention for inhaling smoke.
