A security guard alerted at 2 am that a drone was flying over the embassy, and a little later in the morning, a drone dropped paint on the area, according to several media outlets.
We have used a helicopter in the search, but we have not found any perpetrator, says Mats Eriksson at the Stockholm Police to TT.
"It is serious when a country's embassy is vandalized. Swedish authorities are responsible for the embassy's security, and the Police have initiated an investigation", writes Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard's (M) press secretary to TT.
Dialogue with the Embassy
The Police have been in contact with both the security guard and the staff at the Russian Embassy. The paint is said to have landed on the ground within the embassy area.
I don't know what type of paint it is or what color, says Mats Eriksson at the Stockholm Police.
The incident is being investigated as vandalism, and no one is suspected at present.
For the Norrmalm Police, this is vandalism, but others are looking at this incident in the context of our relationship with Russia and the other incident that occurred at the Swedish Embassy in Moscow, says Mats Eriksson.
Swedish Embassy Vandalized
On Thursday evening, Sweden's Embassy in Moscow was vandalized. The opposition Belarusian media company Nexta published a clip of the incident where three men threw bottles and sprayed the guard booth outside the embassy. They were later arrested by the police, according to Di.
No Swedish Embassy employee was injured in the attack on Thursday, announced Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (M) on X and wrote further:
"Russian authorities have an obligation to protect diplomatic missions and diplomatic personnel. This has been conveyed to Russian authorities by the Swedish Embassy in Moscow in connection with the incident. None of our employees were injured."
