It is about, among other things, information related to two vessels that were in the M/S Estonia's vicinity at the time of the sinking and which had not been previously identified. After the State Accident Investigation Authority has reviewed the information, the two vessels have been identified, the authority writes in a press release.
In addition, the authority has examined an alleged secret document with information on alternative theories about the sinking. They have also reviewed the circumstances surrounding the exercise in port state control that took place on the M/S Estonia the day before the sinking.
Parts of the authority's investigative work have already been published and by the end of the year, a completed final report is expected to be presented.
Alongside the work on the final report, the accident investigation authorities have found reason to examine a number of issues more closely. It is the conclusions of these issues that the State Accident Investigation Authority will publish and disclose at a press conference on Wednesday, August 20.
