This tool will give the police the opportunity to gain access to organizations and forums to find cases and secure convictions against many of the perpetrators who contribute to violating so many children in Denmark and the rest of Europe, says Minister of Justice Peter Hummelgaard (S) to Danmarks Radio.
The proposal is one of several developed in collaboration with Save the Children. The tool has been requested by the police.
The advantage is that when we can enter these forums and engage in dialogue with the perpetrators, we can identify them. We can find out who is behind the screen and then we can apprehend them and prosecute them, says Chief Inspector Lars Mortensen to DR.
According to the proposal, the material that the police are allowed to share will be developed with the help of AI or other forms of digital manipulation. Peter Hummelgaard understands that the tool can raise "ethical dilemmas", but believes it is crucial to be able to get to the masterminds behind the crime.
Johanne Schmidt-Nielsen, Secretary-General of Save the Children in Denmark, says to DR that she understands the police's argumentation but emphasizes that the proposal must be "closely monitored".
It is of course full of dilemmas to give the police the opportunity to create manipulated material in order to gain access to forums where child abuse material is shared.
