Crushed by Eva Rydberg – Comedy Festival Shut Down

The attempt to compete with Eva Rydberg in Helsingborg proved costly. Now Anagram Live is forced to wind down its operations – and shut down Lund Comedy Festival, according to Sydsvenskan.

Lund Comedy Festival has been arranged in the Scanian city since 2010 and has become an important gathering place for Swedish humor. But now it is being shut down.

The background is that Anagram Live took over the operation of Fredriksdalsteatern in Helsingborg after the municipality terminated the contract with Eva Rydberg and this summer put up the farce "Nötter" with Babben Larsson in the lead role.

But at the same time, Eva Rydberg continued her own business at Sundspärlan in Helsingborg – and the audience chose Rydberg.

Anagram Live took a big economic hit from the competition and is now being completely wound up.

It is clear that this has connections to this. We would have managed a loss there, but not of the type we did now due to the changed circumstances, says Anagram Live's CEO Kajsa Jönsson to Sydsvenskan.

Anagram was started as a production company by comedians Anders Jansson and Johan Wester, who sold the company to a French company two years ago. Anagram Live has produced several major comedy tours in recent years.

The shutdown does not affect other businesses operating under the name Anagram, such as the production company Anagram Film. The company is behind, among other things, the SVT success "Tunna blå linjen" and the upcoming Disney+ series "Koka björn".
