It was on May 14 that the man attacked the woman and tried to strangle her in a thicket in Hökarängen in southern Stockholm. Passersby managed to interrupt the assault and were later able to hold him until the police arrived at the scene.

The man is now sentenced to ten years in prison for attempted murder, announces Södertörn's district court.

The 32-year-old served a long prison sentence for a murder in Umeå in 2013, when he shot and killed a 22-year-old woman on a platform at the central station. She was shot with a rifle with a telescopic sight.

For the platform murder, he was sentenced to 14 years in prison, but was conditionally released at the end of 2022.

"Since the current crime was committed during the ongoing probation period, the district court has decided that he shall serve the remaining time from the previous sentence," writes Södertörn's district court.
