The German authorities discovered it when one of the passports was used to enter Düsseldorf, says Chief Prosecutor Nicklas Englund at the Special Prosecution Chamber.

The person traveled into the EU from Dubai. It is unclear whether the other six fake passports have been used.

My guess is, of course, that these passports have been used to enter Sweden. But I cannot prove it.

The seven passports are linked to real identities, but have been given other people's photos, height data, and other biometric information. It has been an extensive effort to go through all the passports issued by the handler to find the fake ones. The offense is classified as gross forgery.

"It is very serious if the trust in Swedish passports is damaged. It is not at all good that a fake Swedish passport of the highest quality has been produced using the police's own equipment", says Chief Prosecutor Englund in a press release.

The passport handler is also charged with perjury, gross crime, and data intrusion. Two other individuals who are not police employees are also charged with gross forgery, primarily as accomplices.
