An American reconnaissance drone flew over Sweden on Thursday evening, writes Expressen.
The RQ-4 Global Hawk drone took off from Bulgaria on Thursday night and then continued over the Baltic states and along the Finnish-Russian border. It then turned west and passed over the Stockholm area at half past seven in the evening.
"It is true that an American drone flew over Sweden and they have permission to use Swedish airspace. This is the new normal now that Sweden is part of NATO", writes Petra Könberg, duty communicator at the Defence Forces, in a statement to the newspaper.
The RQ-4 Global Hawk is a reconnaissance drone designed to gather high-resolution images of large areas. It has the capability to monitor areas of 100,000 square kilometers per day. It is primarily used by the US Air Force, NASA, and NATO, but can also be utilized in search and rescue operations.
