Drinking and then taking a nap on a plane is not a good idea, according to several German researchers in a new study.
48 people slept in an environment with air pressure equivalent to a plane flying more than 2,400 meters above sea level. Everyone tried a night with alcohol and one without.
The researchers found that when people drank alcohol, their blood oxygen levels decreased and heart rate increased, even for young and healthy individuals, according to Sky news.
The quality of sleep also became worse.
The researchers also argue that there is a greater risk for those who fly first class or business, as they may have the opportunity to sleep in a horizontal position.
They therefore recommend avoiding alcohol 12 hours before your flight and hope that more people will become aware of the problem. Due to technical and economic reasons, they do not believe that cabin pressure on planes will increase.
