The airline Nova Airlines is to pay a penalty of over 44 million kronor to the state, according to a decision from the Environmental Protection Agency.
This is because the surrender of emission allowances for greenhouse gas emissions in 2023 did not take place on time, the agency writes in a press release.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the penalty is unusually high.
"The reason for the high amount is that it is to be calculated based on the number of emission allowances that the company should have surrendered", it is stated in the press release.
The airline Nova Airlines went bankrupt last year. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the penalty is directed against the company and the bankruptcy estate.
"A difficulty we have had in the dialogue with the trustee is that they have not wanted to take responsibility for this, so we have addressed the decision to both the bankruptcy estate and the company. It remains to be seen how the outcome will be since the decision has been appealed", says Kristin Sinclair at the Environmental Protection Agency in the press release.
