The introduction of the journal system Millennium, which started on Tuesday at, among others, Södra Älvsborgs hospital, has been anything but smooth and has sparked protests from healthcare staff.
The introduction is now being paused indefinitely.
We have encountered much larger problems than we had expected, says Håkan Sandahl at a press conference.
Our employees have been subjected to stress and I apologize for that.
It is currently unclear when the introduction can continue. However, according to Håkan Sandahl, it is unlikely to happen this year. At the same time, he says he still has confidence in Millennium.
At the core, we still believe in the system. But we need to work with our supplier to get a better introduction and ultimately a better product, he says.
Old system again
After the problems this week, Joakim Höstner, hospital director at Södra Älvsborgs hospital, recommended that Millennium be paused.
He is supported by Jörgen Thorn, primary care director for Närhälsan.
It has turned out that there are many problems. For Närhälsan's part, significant improvements are needed, he says.
Instead, the old systems will now be reactivated. However, the operations that already have Millennium will still need to work in the system over the weekend.
We are now exploring the possibilities for moving forward. At the same time, work is underway to resolve the problems that have arisen, says Sandahl.
Harshly criticized
The new journal system has already received harsh criticism, not least from healthcare staff, who have testified to a complicated system and inadequate internal training.
Many employees are also worried that patient safety is being threatened by Millennium.
This has, among other things, led to the healthcare center in Kinna pausing the system – and temporarily switching to pen and paper.
There have also been reports of important words disappearing in Millennium, for example, the diagnosis "no bleeding" became "bleeding" instead.
