Serbia's President Aleksandar Vucic announces that he plans to talk to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin since the USA has announced that it will impose extensive sanctions on Russia's energy sector – which affects a Serbian company.

According to Vucic, the conversation will initially take place over the phone, but he will then "explore other ways to communicate", he said at a press conference.

The USA and the UK announced on Friday sanctions against Russia's energy companies, including oil giant Gazprom Neft.

The Serbian company is majority-owned by Gazprom Neft and its parent company Gazprom and is the only gas supplier to Serbia.

Serbia has maintained a close relationship with Moscow since the Russian invasion of Ukraine – and refuses to impose sanctions.
