Over 200 children in Region Stockholm are to be tested for tuberculosis. Some of them will receive preventive antibiotic treatment. The reason is that a healthcare worker has been infected with tuberculosis, according to Aftonbladet.
In this case, it is a number of small children who may have been exposed to a person with tuberculosis, says infectious disease doctor Maria Rotzén Östlund to the newspaper.
The region is now working on contacting the children's parents. Maria Rotzén Östlund notes that there is a very small risk of an outbreak among the children.
We will contact over 200 children. However, I cannot say how many will need to take the antibiotic treatment, she says.
