The perpetrator was 17 years old at the time of the murder and the prison sentence is the longest that can be imposed on a minor.

Had this person been 18, he would have received a life sentence, says the presiding judge, chief magistrate Anders Larsson to TT.

Mohammed Mohammed denies the crime. However, the district court considers it proven that he handled the murder weapon, as his DNA was found on it. His explanation that he only test-fired the weapon is not accepted by the court.

It was on April 10 that Mikael was shot to death in front of his son's eyes after a confrontation with three youths in a pedestrian tunnel.

The son's testimony about how the perpetrator was dressed and how he left the scene on a bicycle has been crucial, explains Anders Larsson.

"Affects the sentence"

The fact that the son was present and saw his father being murdered is also an aggravating circumstance.

We believe that the perpetrator realized that the son might be nearby. This also affects the sentence, says Larsson.

Mohammed Mohammed is also convicted of other crimes – including two attempted murders of individuals in a rival group, as well as kidnapping and serious weapons offenses in 2023.

He is linked by the police to a criminal network called the Skärholmsfalangen. He has long been active in criminal circles and is believed to have been criminally active since the age of 13.

The other crimes also affect the sentence.

The attempted murders were very serious. It's about a shooting with an automatic weapon inside a shopping center and a shooting with a pistol from behind, which hit a person in the shoulder, says Anders Larsson.

"Many emotions"

Larsson is satisfied with how the trial was conducted, considering the great attention surrounding the case.

I think the main hearing was conducted well. There have been some disturbances, but no more than one would expect in a case like this with many emotions.

Three other individuals are convicted of involvement in the murder. Two individuals are convicted of serious obstruction of justice, as they washed a bicycle used by the perpetrator and thereby destroyed evidence. A third person is also convicted of the same crime for their involvement in handling the bicycle.

The accomplices are sentenced to youth care, probation, community service, and youth supervision, respectively.

A fourth person is acquitted of the charges of serious obstruction of justice.

The background to the murder early on the evening of April 10, 2024, according to the indictment, was that 39-year-old Mikael confronted three youths in a pedestrian tunnel in Skärholmen, southern Stockholm.

A verbal altercation ensued between Mikael and the youths, which ended in the fatal shooting.

The murder is described in the indictment as particularly ruthless, as Mikael was shot in front of his son, who was about 60 meters away.

The convicted Mohammed Mohammed, then 17, allegedly fled the scene on a bicycle on which his DNA was later found.

More than two months after the shooting, what is believed to be the murder weapon was found in a basement storage room in Skärholmen. On the pistol, DNA from two individuals, including Mohammed, was found.

The perpetrator is linked by the police to a criminal network called the Skärholmsfalangen.

He has long been active in criminal circles and the police believe he was criminally active since the age of 13, as stated in a 2021 LVU decision.
