Stockholm City Hall houses offices and session halls for politicians and officials, alongside assembly rooms and works of art. The municipal council meets in Rådssalen, the Council Chamber. The building is open to visitors only on guided tours. Visit Stockholm says tours run daily in Swedish and English at certain hours, but events can lead to short-notice cancellations. The City Hall’s website says tours pass through its banquet halls and cover the building’s history, function and architecture.

Architect Ragnar Östberg designed the building, which uses eight million bricks. Its tower is 106 metres high and topped by the Three Crowns. The Nobel banquet is held here: after dinner in Blå Hallen, the Blue Hall, Nobel laureates, royalty and other guests dance in Gyllene Salen, the Golden Hall, which has 18 million gold mosaic tiles.

The tower can be climbed during its stated May-to-August season, when visitors can see views of the city. That season has ended for this week in November. In City Hall Park, visitors can walk along the water, see sculptures and view the building’s architecture up close. The City Hall offers online tickets for guided tours, tower visits and events.
