Stockholm Olympic Stadium, usually called Stadion, was built as the main venue for Stockholm’s 1912 Olympics. Architect Torben Grut first proposed a temporary arena of white-painted wooden boards. When the stadium was to become a permanent landmark, he designed a brick building instead, drawing on Ragnar Östberg’s buildings and the Visby City Wall. Its style is Swedish National Romantic.

Look for small patterns and reliefs set into the brickwork, along with statues by Carl Eldh and Carl Fagerberg. Stadion still hosts concerts and sports events. Visit Stockholm describes it as the world’s oldest Olympic arena still in use. Before newer arenas such as Tele2 and Friends were built in the 21st century, Stadion was a summer concert venue for international stars.

The grounds are open to the public every day. Visitors can go for a morning jog or practise football on the field, as well as see the architecture and sculpture. The supplied information gives no visit duration or admission price. It does not give an event schedule, so the daily public access information is separate from details about particular concerts or sports events.
