The Royal National City Park stretches from Sörentorp and Ulriksdal in the north to Djurgården and Fjäderholmarna in the south. It covers parts of Stockholm, Solna and Lidingö. The park was established in 1995 and covers 27 square kilometres.
Its terrain includes open meadows and pastures, spruce forest, wetlands, lakes and coastal areas. The park’s activities change with the seasons: visitors can walk among old trees, swim from rocks in summer and ski in winter. Castles and museums are also among the places to visit. The park’s official site describes its trees, wildlife and history, and the Naturkartan app maps natural, cultural and historical places for walking or cycling.
The whole park is protected as an area of national interest under Sweden’s Environmental Code, with protection for its natural and cultural values. If you plan to light a fire or barbecue, check the current fire-ban information on the Stockholm Fire Brigade website first. The park’s managing authority says not to use disposable barbecues and to take rubbish home. The website gives no admission price or suggested visit length.
