Östermalmstorg is about 23 metres below sea level, making it the third deepest station in Stockholm’s metro system. Completed in 1965, it is in Östermalm, which Visit Stockholm describes as one of the city’s poshest and most expensive boroughs. The station is on the red line, served by trains 13 and 14.

Several artists have works in the station. Its centrepiece is Siri Derkert’s sketches on the walls. The pictures are blasted into pitch-black rock covered in white concrete; Visit Stockholm describes them as playful and personal. Derkert was 77 when the station opened, and the art brought together central themes from her work.

As you walk around the station, you can see the word “peace” written in different languages, along with portraits of people who worked on environmental and women’s rights issues. The historical figures include many women from the Fogelstad group, a women’s art collective that Derkert belonged to. Take a red-line train numbered 13 or 14 to reach the station.
