Tensta’s metro station is a stop on Stockholm’s blue line 10, with artwork across its platform. Tensta, a northern Stockholm suburb, was built between 1966 and 1972 to meet housing demand in a rapidly growing city. A station was part of the plan from the start, but it was completed in 1975.
Artists Helga Heschen, Arne Sedell and Helga’s brother Lars spent more than a year decorating the platform. Their work combines small animal statues and dandelion leaves against white-painted walls. Three works are called “A Rose for the Immigrants”, “Solidarity” and “Brotherhood”. The words are also written in different languages around the station, as a tribute to the cultures represented in Tensta.
The artists wanted the station to welcome people regardless of background or country of birth, reflecting the fact that many Tensta residents had immigrated to Sweden. The platform is where to see the decoration and its multilingual words.
