Tensta station’s platform is decorated with animal sculptures and stylized leaves against a bright white wall. Helga Henschen created the display with Arne Sedell and her brother Lars; the three spent more than a year decorating the platform. The station was included in plans for Tensta, a suburb built between 1966 and 1972 to provide housing for a growing Stockholm, but it was not ready until 1975.

The works include “A rose for the immigrants”, “Solidarity” and “Kinship”. Words written around the station celebrate people from different cultures who live in Tensta, according to art guide Marie Andersson. Tensta has always had a majority of residents who immigrated to Sweden, and the artists wanted the station to welcome people whatever their roots, Andersson says.

The platform is where to see the artwork: look for the animal forms and leaf motifs, as well as the words around the station. The white wall forms the backdrop to the sculptures and stylized leaves. Tensta is on subway blue line 10, so the artwork is seen at the station itself. Its setting connects the display to the suburb whose residents the artists wanted to welcome.
