Humlegården is a public park a short walk from Stureplan. The city describes it as one of Stockholm’s oldest parks, with winding gravel paths, open lawns and trees of different kinds and ages. Three rows of lime trees lead towards the central statue of Carl Linnaeus, surrounded by flower beds.
The park has a playground in its northern section, plus a ball court, a skateboard area, an outdoor gym and a dog run. A summer restaurant is in the eastern section. Visit Stockholm also lists a summer restaurant and a summer beer garden in the park. These food venues are seasonal; the pages give no opening or closing dates.
Several other sculptures are in the park, including a statue of Fredrika Bremer and works by Martin Holmgren, Lohe Christine and Peter Linde. The National Library of Sweden stands in the southern part of the park, where the city also says there are two outdoor cafés.
Humlegården began as a royal garden for growing produce, according to the city. It opened gradually to the public during the 18th century and became a public park in the late 19th century. The city says its present layout reflects successive changes, including the addition of larger lawns and sports areas in the mid-20th century. The park is used for walks, play, picnics and sitting outdoors.
