Opened in 1794, Gustav III's Museum of Antiquities displays classical sculptures bought by King Gustav III during his 1783–84 trip to Italy. The palace describes it as one of Europe's oldest public museums. Its rooms are two stone galleries in the Royal Palace's northeast wing, with views over Logården. The sculptures are arranged as they were when first displayed. Shortly after Gustav III's death, the collection, then more than 200 sculptures, was put on show in his memory. The larger gallery contains Endymion, which attracted admiration in the 18th century.
Visit Stockholm says the museum is open to pre-booked groups only from May through September and closed for the rest of the year. It is therefore closed to visitors on 1 November. The palace website offers a year-round 360-degree virtual tour of the larger stone gallery. It also has an audio history featuring palace educators Caroline Edman and Jonas Rosin.
