Gamla Filmstaden in Råsunda, Solna, was Sweden’s film-making centre from 1920 into the early 1970s. More than 400 films were made there, and eight buildings from the studio era remain. Greta Garbo and Ingrid Bergman made their debuts at the studios, and Ingmar Bergman worked there. Visit Stockholm says 30 of Bergman’s films were made at Filmstaden, including The Seventh Seal and Summer with Monika.
You can walk around the grounds with an English audio guide, or book a guided group tour in English, German or French. Groups can have up to 35 people; the venue asks visitors to arrange tours by email. Behind the Gatekeeper’s lodge, an outdoor photo exhibition about Filmstaden’s history has free admission.
The venue’s exhibition The Dream Factory is scheduled to be on view throughout 2026, but it is temporarily taken down from 16 October to 15 November to make room for artist Annica Johansson’s Autumn Exhibition. The café in the Gatekeeper’s lodge serves waffles and has a small exhibition about Swedish films from the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s. It is open Fridays to Sundays, noon to 5pm.
