Filmhuset houses the Swedish Film Institute, the centre of Sweden’s film industry, and is the main venue for Cinemateket, a movie club with a programme that includes auteur films, cult rarities, world cinema and classics. The building also contains Sweden’s largest library of books and magazines about film, according to Visit Stockholm. The institute says its work covers film from the idea stage through launch in Sweden and around the world, as well as preserving films in its archives; the listed information does not say that the archives are open to visitors.
The building at Borgvägen 1–5 was built in the late 1960s. Visit Stockholm describes its brutalist design as shaped like a camera, with windows resembling perforations in a film strip and elevator doors like make-up mirrors. From above, it almost looks like a roll of film.
The Cinemateket page gives no screening dates, opening hours or ticket prices in the information listed here. Check the programme before planning around a particular film. No visit duration is stated.
