Avicii Arena, previously known as Globen and Ericsson Globe, opened in 1989. Visit Stockholm describes it as the world’s largest spherical building, with a volume of 605,000 cubic metres and a height of 110.4 metres. The page calls it one of Stockholm’s best-known buildings. It is Sweden’s national arena for ice hockey and hosts a broad programme of events and concerts.
The Rolling Stones, Metallica, Beyoncé, Madonna and U2 are among the acts that have performed on its main stage. The venue’s broad programme means a visit can centre on a concert or another event.
Skyview is a lift that runs along the outside of the arena’s rounded facade. Visitors can take it for views over southern Stockholm. The lift follows the curved exterior of the building, giving visitors another way to experience the arena besides attending an event. The arena’s scale is also given in its dimensions: it is 110.4 metres high and has a volume of 605,000 cubic metres.
